In
the 1980's new rules and regulations were
being implemented to protect the
firefighters, they were not allowed to ride
on the back of the engines any more. In an
effort to make it safer for our firefighters
we started replacing engines with five man
cabs so that everyone had a seat with safety
belts. As the eighties continued open cabs
were no longer allowed to be built and the
vehicles were getting taller and longer to
be able to carry the water and equipment
required.
The eighties also brought the birth of our
EMS service. Starting in June1980 a First
Response unit was put into service and in
February 1982 the Farmersville Fire
Association became part of the Montgomery
County Emergency Medical Service Council. A
year later the rescue service became a
paramedic unit. The Medic currently being
used is a 1998 Medtec ambulance equipped for
emergencies from a skinned knee to major
vehicle accidents to life threatening
illnesses.
In December 2006 we moved into a new
building designed for the future of fire and
EMS. It currently houses an engine, a new
engine/tanker combination( purchased with a
Federal FEMA grant), tanker, brush truck,
heavy rescue truck, medic, portable
generator and rescue trailer that was
purchased through the combine effort of the
Western Montgomery County Fire departments.
Along with offices, day room, kitchen and
training room. All of which would not be
possible except for the generosity and
support of those that we serve. Thank you |
